Random hex color generator — quick, fun, crypto-secure

Need a random color right now — for a design mockup, a CSS accent, a game avatar, or a “pick a color” icebreaker? HitRandom’s random color generator is deliberately simple: one big Generate button, a large swatch, and the random hex code front and center. No format panels, no color libraries, no chart widgets — just hit random and copy #rrggbb.

Hex-first by design: HEX is what developers and designers paste into CSS, Figma, and Tailwind configs. Each swatch shows # plus six hex digits — the same in single and bulk mode. Need RGB strings instead? Pick RGB values in the copy-format dropdown or switch to Text view. If you need RGB sliders, HSL breakdowns, OKLCH, palette builders, or hex-to-rgb converters, our sister site WebColorTools is the full professional upgrade.

Crypto-secure randomness: Colors are not pseudo-random. HitRandom samples hue, saturation, and lightness through crypto.getRandomValues() and converts to sRGB hex — the same secure path as our dice, coin flip, and UUID tools. Every click is independent; refreshing gives a new color with no server round-trip.

Optional vibe filter: Want lighter pastels for a soft UI theme? Dark moody tones? High-chroma brights? Choose a vibe before generating — or leave Any for the full spectrum. The filter is a gentle steer, not a complex color science panel. HitRandom stays the light, fun tool; WebColorTools stays the deep one.

Bulk random hex colors: Set quantity up to 50 to fill a grid of swatches — each with its own copy button. Export the list as comma-separated text, one hex per line, JSON, or spreadsheet columns. Download .txt or .csv for mood boards, test data, or raffle color picks. Recent generations appear in a session history you can click to restore.

Who uses this: Frontend devs picking placeholder accent colors, teachers running “random color” classroom activities, streamers doing chat color challenges, tabletop GMs assigning team colors, and anyone who searched random color generator, random hex color, or random hex and wants the answer in under a second. Pair with HitRandom’s UUID Generator and Password Generator in Generators & Security — or jump to WebColorTools when the project outgrows a single hex.

Frequently asked questions

How do I generate a random hex color?
Click Generate (or press Space on desktop). HitRandom picks a random color using crypto.getRandomValues(), shows a large swatch, and displays the HEX code — e.g. #3fa7d6. Use the copy button beside the hex to grab it instantly.
Can I generate multiple random colors at once?
Yes. Set Quantity from 1 to 50 and click Generate. Each color appears as its own swatch with a hex label and individual copy button. For bulk lists, use Copy all in comma-separated, one-per-line, JSON, or spreadsheet-friendly formats, or download .txt / .csv.
What does the vibe filter do?
Optional and minimal: choose Any for fully random hues, or narrow to Light, Dark, Bright, or Pastel palettes. The filter adjusts how colors are sampled — hex output stays the same simple format. Leave it on Any if you just want pure randomness.
Is this the same as WebColorTools?
No — and that is intentional. HitRandom is the quick random hex button: generate, copy, done. WebColorTools is the full professional toolkit (RGB, HSL, HSV, OKLCH, palettes, conversions). Use HitRandom for speed; upgrade to WebColorTools when you need the complete color workflow.
Are random colors generated in the browser?
Yes. Every RGB channel uses cryptographically secure randomness from crypto.getRandomValues() via our shared random core — never Math.random(). Nothing is uploaded or stored on a server. Recent colors in the session list are kept only in memory until you refresh.
