Random city generator — pick a random city
Need a random city for a travel roulette game, a geography warm-up, a writing prompt, or a “guess the skyline” challenge? HitRandom’s random city generator draws fairly from 530 major world cities — New York, Tokyo, Cairo, Sydney, São Paulo, and hundreds more. One click gives you a single copyable tile; raise the quantity for bulk lists used in classrooms, parties, or stream segments.
Continent and country filters: Narrow the pool with two dropdowns. Pick North America + United States for a random US city, Europe alone for a random European city, or any country in the dataset. Filters use country and continent metadata in the JSON — fair picks from the filtered pool only.
Major cities, curated list: Every name is a recognizable city people know from maps, news, and travel — not obscure villages. The list is deduplicated and stored as JSON shipped with the tool. This page targets the random city keyword; our Random Country Generator lives on a separate URL for nation-level picks.
Crypto-secure randomness: Each pick indexes into the dataset through crypto.getRandomValues() — the same unbiased engine behind our dice roller and list tools. Unique mode shuffles without replacement when Allow duplicates is off. No server calls, no login, no tracking of your results.
Bulk random cities: Generate up to 50 cities per click. Twenty-five or fewer show as compact orange tiles. Larger batches open a text panel with comma-separated, space-separated, one-per-line, tab, column, and JSON formats. Copy all, download .txt or .csv, and restore recent batches from session history.
Same dataset-picker engine: Under the hood this uses HitRandom’s reusable dataset component — identical controls to Random Food and Random Animal generators. Swap the JSON file and labels; the UI, sound toggle, copy formats, and mobile layout stay the same.
Who uses this: Geography teachers, travel creators, party hosts, tabletop GMs picking mission cities, and anyone who searched random city generator or pick a random city. Pair with Random Country Generator when you need both nation and city prompts in the same game night.
